Job Description

Long haul truck driver position based in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Work location: On the road. Work locations may vary. Frequent or constant travel is required from the employee.

Salary: $31.50 hourly for 40 hours per week.

Employment: Permanent, full-time.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

Calculate the cost of truck repairs and new parts if needed.

Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

Coach colleagues on new methods or work techniques.

Professionalism in customer service.

Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy.

Load and unload goods.

Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.

Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment.

Perform emergency roadside repairs.

Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle.

Receive and relay information to central dispatch.

Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption.

Skills / Qualifications

Language: English.

Air Brakes Endorsement.

Driver's License (Class 1 or A).

Documentation knowledge: Accident or incident reports; Bill of lading; Driver logbook; Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip); Maintenance and repair reports; Trip reports.

Experience with refrigerated and tractor-trailer equipment.

Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment.

Experience with trip recorder (on-board computer).

Valid driver's licence.

Willing to travel cross-border, for extended periods, internationally and overnight.
