Effective Date: July 31, 2026

PrimeJobBank is committed to promoting a safer job-search and recruitment environment for candidates, employers and other users.

However, users must independently verify employers, recruiters, candidates, job offers and communications before providing personal information, sending documents, making payments or taking any other action.

1. Common Warning Signs

Be cautious if an employer, recruiter, intermediary or other person:

  • Asks you to pay for a job offer, interview, recruitment, placement, training, sponsorship or Labour Market Impact Assessment;
  • Requests banking information, passwords, identification documents or immigration information before it is reasonably necessary;
  • Offers unusually high wages for very little work, limited experience or no formal interview;
  • Communicates only through messaging applications, social media or a personal email address;
  • Refuses to provide a verifiable business address, telephone number or official company email address;
  • Pressures you to respond immediately, make a payment or keep the opportunity confidential;
  • Sends a cheque and asks you to return, transfer or forward part of the money;
  • Requests payment through gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfer or another difficult-to-reverse method;
  • Asks you to receive, purchase or transfer goods or money on someone else’s behalf;
  • Provides employment documents containing inconsistent names, addresses, wages or contact information; or
  • Guarantees employment, a visa, work permit, permanent residence, provincial nomination or other immigration approval.

Important: Candidates should not pay an employer, recruiter, employment agency or intermediary for a job offer, interview, recruitment, placement, sponsorship, LMIA or access to an employment opportunity.

2. Protect Yourself

Before applying for a position, attending an interview or accepting an offer, take reasonable steps to verify the opportunity.

  • Research the employer and confirm its official business name, website, address and contact information;
  • Verify that the person contacting you is authorized to represent the employer;
  • Check whether the job appears on the employer’s official website or other legitimate recruitment channels;
  • Contact the employer using independently verified contact information;
  • Review the job title, duties, wage, location, hours and employment conditions carefully;
  • Be cautious when an offer is made without a proper interview or assessment;
  • Do not send money, gift cards, cryptocurrency or banking credentials;
  • Do not share passwords, account access codes or online banking information;
  • Avoid sending unnecessary passport, immigration, identity or financial documents;
  • Use strong and unique passwords for your PrimeJobBank account;
  • Keep your account login information confidential; and
  • Keep copies of relevant job postings, emails, messages and employment documents.

Before accepting an offer: Confirm the employer’s identity, carefully review the written employment terms and seek professional advice where appropriate.

3. Protecting Personal Information

Candidates should provide only the information reasonably necessary for a legitimate recruitment process.

Do not include unnecessary sensitive information in a résumé, candidate profile or initial application, including:

  • Social Insurance Number;
  • Bank account or credit-card information;
  • Online banking usernames or passwords;
  • PrimeJobBank account passwords;
  • Immigration portal login information;
  • Gift-card numbers or cryptocurrency-wallet information;
  • Complete passport or identity-document numbers;
  • Security-question answers; or
  • Any other information that is not reasonably required for recruitment.

Employers should not request sensitive information earlier than reasonably necessary and must protect candidate information in accordance with applicable privacy laws.

4. Employer and Recruiter Responsibilities

Employers and recruiters must publish genuine, lawful, accurate and current employment opportunities.

Employers and recruiters must not:

  • Publish fraudulent, false or misleading job postings;
  • Advertise positions that do not genuinely exist;
  • Charge, request, collect or recover recruitment, placement, job-offer, sponsorship, LMIA or similar fees from candidates or workers;
  • Misrepresent wages, duties, location, hours or working conditions;
  • Use candidate information for unrelated purposes;
  • Sell or improperly disclose candidate information;
  • Request unnecessary financial or identity information;
  • Discriminate against candidates contrary to applicable law;
  • Guarantee immigration approval or government authorization;
  • Impersonate another employer, recruiter or organization; or
  • Use PrimeJobBank for pyramid schemes, money-transfer schemes or other unlawful activity.

Employers are responsible for their recruitment practices, hiring decisions, employment agreements, communications, wages, workplace conditions and compliance with applicable laws.

5. No Employment or Immigration Guarantee

PrimeJobBank provides an online platform through which employers and candidates may connect.

PrimeJobBank does not guarantee:

  • The identity or conduct of every user;
  • The accuracy or legitimacy of every job posting;
  • A response from an employer;
  • An interview or job offer;
  • Employment or continued employment;
  • A particular wage, schedule or working condition;
  • Employer sponsorship;
  • A Labour Market Impact Assessment;
  • A work permit or visa;
  • Permanent residence or provincial nomination; or
  • Any other immigration or government outcome.

A job posting, application, interview or employment offer does not automatically establish eligibility to work in Canada or qualify a person for an immigration program.
